An arrangement of the traditional Shaker hymn “Simple Gifts” for brass ensemble. Simple Gifts, a quintessentially American tune, was made famous by Copland’s usage of the hymn in his “Appalachian Spring.” This arrangement uses a theme and variations form to present the hymn in various different contexts, similar to Copland’s treatment of the tune in his work.
