The St. Davids Orchestra Society of Eastern University presents the world premiere of “Titanic 2012” by Justin Tokke. A dramatic narrative for orchestra and spoken narrators, the piece is written in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912. 100 years later, this powerful story of the largest ship afloat striking an iceberg on her maiden voyage, is retold through music and narration comprised of quotes by survivors of the tragedy. The premiere will be conducted by the composer.
The concert also features a second world premiere by St. Davids Orchestra Society director David Bryant entitled “Number 13”. Styled in a 1930s radio drama, this piece recounts M. R. James’s short ghost story about a mysterious disappearing hotel room aptly numbered “13”.
