Justin Tokke is a composer, conductor, trombonist, and copyist based in the Philadelphia and New York City areas. He began his musical studies in trombone and composition in 2000. After being accepted into the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, one of New York City’s magnet arts high schools, he went on to write several new works for the school’s ensembles. He played in the All-City Concert Band and studied at the Bloomingdale School of Music, writing music and playing trombone for both. In 2008, he was accepted into Mannes College, The New School for Music, one of New York’s premier conservatories studying composition. In 2010, he transferred to complete his undergraduate degree in composition at Eastern University in Philadelphia, PA.
As a composer, Justin has received commissions from Eastern University, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and the Bloomingdale School of Music in Manhattan. He has written several large-scale works as a specialist in orchestral and band music. As an arranger and orchestrator, he has worked on projects with LucasArts, Jon Deak, and arranged several works for various, sometimes eclectic, ensembles. As a copyist, he has worked with Broadway Church in Vancouver, BC, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and the New York Philharmonic Education Department. Justin has studied conducing with Ryan McAdams, music director of the New York Youth Symphony. He conducts his own works whenever possible. He has also worked as a music librarian with Nyack College and Eastern University.
His works have been performed by acclaimed ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, New York Youth Symphony, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra, and the St. Davids Orchestra Society, among others. He has received several awards in composition and music theory and won awards in several competitions throughout the United States and Great Britain.
